Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
