Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the man continued to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police again.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
