Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to force a decider.

He rescued four early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
